Zibiz - Data Management

Data Management Solutions
As a leading provider of Enterprise Data Management (EDM) solutions, Zibiz Data Management focuses on the quality and integrity of an organization’s data assets. Over the past few decades the Enterprise Data Management (EDM) function in virtually every organization has grown substantially in size, complexity and importance.

Zibiz Data Management’s mission is to help organizations deal with the inherent intricacies of this growth in an efficient and effective manner. Zibiz essentially provides custom-tailored EDM solutions around Hardware, Software and Integration Services - solutions designed to effectively support the EDM objective of your company.

EDM Defined

Enterprise Data Management is actually an organization’s strategy focused on and dealing with the quality of its data assets over time. As a result it is a process or concept with a goal of accurate, consistent and transparent data. It also refers to the ability of an organization to accurately define, effortlessly incorporate and successfully retrieve data for both internal applications and external communication.

The 4 P's of EDM

From data de-duplication and server & data virtualization to SAN implementations, EDM solutions can be categorized into 4 distinct categories: Data Storage (Place), Data Security (Protection), Data Flow (Processing) & Data Availability (Presence). Since EDM is a dynamic process rather than a stationary state, these categories can be considered variables of the EDM function in time. Consequently EDM is the integral and synergetic function of these variables which Zibiz considers to be the 4 “P’s” of Enterprise Data Management:

Place of Data or Data-Storage:
  • Solutions in this area revolve around the question of “where” data is located in the organization and why there. In other words: what are the repositories or “inventory-points” of data in the organization, their capacity and nature. Typical solutions in this category revolve around consolidation, integration and optimization of data(sets) into SAN, NAS, CAS, VTL, etc. configurations.
Processing of Data or Data-Flow and Transition:
  • This variable revolves around how Data is flowing inside the organization between the inventory (storage) points and processes (applications). Both in the front-end where data ideally is converted into Information as well as the back-end where data is being manipulated for administrative purposes. Typical solutions revolve around Backing-up, Archiving, De-Duplication, OLTP, etc.
Protection of Data or Data-Security:
  • Solutions in this category revolve around the question of how well data in the organization, whether in motion or at rest, is protected against (un)intentional compromise of its existence and integrity. Even though some protection solutions transcend both, they typically can be classified into two subcategories: preventative and restorative.
    1. Preventative solutions are typically designed around keeping the original data (set) intact and are proactive in nature whereas restorative solutions are considered to be reactive. Solutions in this category typically revolve around encryption, access control, early detection and redundancy.
    2. Restorative solutions repair the data(set) after compromise has occurred. These solutions have as goal to reduce the amount of time to get back to a steady state as if nothing had happened to the data. In other words, minimize time to recover (RTO) to a state or point (RPO) as close as possible to when the compromise occurred, and typically involve keeping and bringing back online non-compromised (golden) copies of the data-set.
Presence of Data or Data-Availability:
  • This variable revolves around the question of when the data in the organization is available to the people, processes or applications that require it. In other words: the timing or timeliness of data. Typical solutions focus on High Availability and redundancy like Clustering, Fail-over, etc.
Zibiz considers the aforementioned categories, or variables if you will, to be the Enterprise Data Management Mix and are the main ingredients of any effective EDM strategy. They are essentially management tools that individually and combined define the overall success of managing data in your organization. Please note that these tools consist of multiple sub-areas and solutions that are not mutually exclusive nor exist in a vacuum and are, in most cases, interdependent. Zibiz’s value lies in leveraging its expertise and experience in providing EDM solutions to help its customers optimize their “EDM function”. The end result will be an EDM strategy that supports all other functions and (core) processes in the organization effectively and efficiently. All of this, of course, within the restrictions imposed by Company, Industry and Governmental compliance. Using this 4 Tool vantage point, Zibiz Data Management in turn assesses, architects, implements and maintains the solutions that are appropriate for your organization.
